The Oklahoma City Zoo and Botanical Garden named a new baby gorilla less than two weeks after her birth. Zoo officials selected the name Kamina for the gorilla in honor of her father, Togo.
The female Western lowland gorilla was born on Aug. 16.
Kamina's mother was given several opportunities to bond with her baby within the first 24 hours after the birth and didn't show any interest in her, putting the newborn's life at risk, according to an OKC Zoo veterinarian.
The Great Escape team reports Kamina is currently eating well and gradually gaining weight.
