A "Click It or Ticket" traffic stop turned into a car chase and foot pursuit, but ended with the arrest of the suspect in Oklahoma City, Monday afternoon.
According to the Oklahoma County Sheriff's office, at about 2:30 p.m., a deputy assigned to the “Click It or Ticket” seat belt enforcement noticed a driver of a vehicle not wearing his seat belt. The deputy attempted to make a traffic stop at N.W. 10th and N. Meridian, but the driver refused to stop.
In the area of N.W. 10th and N. MacArthur, the driver, 26-year old Joshua Slaughter, stopped the car he was driving, got out and ran on foot. The deputy chased after Slaughter, who then jumped a couple of fences in a residential area.
The deputy attempted to stop Slaughter and deployed some pepper ball rounds, but the rounds had no effect, according to the Sheriff's office.
Eventually, Slaughter was forced to stop running when he came to a dead end in the 1100 block N. Carol Lane. Slaughter was taken into custody with assistance from Oklahoma City Police Department officers.
Slaughter was booked into the Oklahoma County Jail on complaints of driving with a suspended license, obstructing an officer, attempting to elude, and no seat belt. He is being held on $7,500 bond.
