You've probably seen the paragraph-long statuses about privacy. But as it turns out, what those paragraphs warn is a hoax. In fact, they have been circulating Facebook for several years now and just resurfaced.

One example of the hoax claims to be a legal message to protect your Facebook photos and profile information from copyright infringement. This one has been spreading around since 2012.

Another apparently allows users to buy a $5.99 monthly subscription to ensure posts stay hidden. That is 100% fake and has been around since 2011.

Facebook referred users to its Statement of Rights and Responsibilities which states, "You own all of the content and information you post on Facebook, and you can control how it is shared through your privacy and application settings."

So if you really want privacy, go through your settings, not your status.
