Buddy Hield was hanging out in his home-away-from-home – Lloyd Noble Center – around 11pm Tuesday night. He was surrounded by up to fifteen family members and friends who were in Norman for Hield’s Senior Night and final home game at Oklahoma – an emotionally draining 2-point win over Baylor, which was more of a Houdini-like escape than your standard W.
The affable Bahamian obliged my request for an interview after he’d ask me to give him a restaurant suggestion that would accommodate his gang for a late-night bite to eat. Hield will no doubt have his jersey retired, just like Blake Griffin, who was honored at a slick halftime ceremony. Preserving last night’s win wasn’t necessary for his inclusion in OU’s special club, but it sure didn’t hurt.
Thanks for watching my visit with Buddy, which included his team’s collapse, the recovery, his National Player of Year thoughts, the postseason and his experience talking with the Warriors' Steph Curry and Klay Thompson.
