Heavy rains produced flooding in southern Oklahoma that required the rescue of about a dozen people from homes in the Maysville area.
Garvin County Emergency Management Director Bud Ramming said rescuers using fire trucks, large four-wheel drive vehicles and a boat took people from about five flooded homes Sunday morning.
Ramming said there have been no injuries, but there is flood damage to both homes and roads and Highway 19 from Lindsay to Pauls Valley, which passes through Maysville, is impassable. The town has essentially been shut down.
Ramming said officials are working to set up shelters for those forced from their homes.
The National Weather Service reported that up to four inches of rain had fallen in the area Sunday morning and up to three more inches is possible.
A flash flood warning is in effect in parts of south-central and southeastern Oklahoma through early Sunday afternoon.
According to Comanche County Emergency Management, the Lawton Fire Deppartment will be evacuating the Garden Creek and Shelter Creek area due to heavy flooding.
