A couple charged with murder in the 2006 disappearance of their adopted son plead not guilty in Seminole County court Thursday.

James "Rex" and Rebecca Clark are charged with first-degree murder and four counts of child abuse. They are accused of killing their adopted son Colton Clark who disappeared back in April 2006.

Colton's body has never been found. Back in April of this year, Clark's brother came forward and reported how he and Colton experienced horrible abuse, and he believes that Rex and Rebecca Clark did something with Colton's body after beating him to death.

The couple's attorney, Robert Butler, told News 9 the couple continues to maintain their innocence, and have maintained it since day one. Their attorney also questions Colton's brother's motives.

"That young man has issues himself," said Butler.

Both Rex and Rebecca had nothing to say as they were led in and out of the Seminole County courtroom Thursday afternoon. The two are still being held on a $3-million bond.

"They're monsters, both of them," said Raven Womack, who said she's Colton Clark's sister. "And how they both have smirks on their faces literally kills my soul."

The Rex and Rebecca Clark's next court appearance is set for Oct. 6. A trial date has not been set.
