This week Oklahoma City approved a plan to cover three intersections in the Classen Ten Penn neighborhood with murals.

The public art will cost about $7000 and be mostly paid for through a federal grant.

The 20’ by 20’ murals will be painted along 13th and 12th streets in Classen Ten Penn.

Local artist have been commissioned for the artwork which is expected to begin in the next month or so.

“Really give the neighbors a chance to feel proud of where they come from, give them roots,” says neighbor Jessica Thompson who pushed for the murals after seeing them in other cities.

For the past two years Classen Ten Penn has been part of the Strong Neighborhood Initiative which aims to improve communities.

A similar grant paid for a giant mural called “The Plains Pioneers” on the side of the gym at McKinley Park in Classen Ten Penn.
