Chickasha Police Searching for Church Vandals

Police are investigating the vandalism of First Assembly of God Church located at 3340 South 6th Street.

They say on June 29th into the 30th, someone broke-in during the overnight hours and caused thousands of dollars of damage.

“We are hoping to get some information and find these people,” Chickasha Police Lt. Scott Weaver said.

Investigators say injuring a house of worship is a felony crime in Oklahoma.

Church members say a fire extinguisher was used to spray foam throughout the building.

Food also covered the floors, and the vandals are accused of punching through some walls at the church.

“They are mostly coming in late, from the time the church closes up, late night time to early morning hours. They are normally discovered first thing in the morning when the workers are coming in,” Lt. Weaver said.

Some items have also gone missing from First Assembly of God.

Church members say the building has been broken into three times recently.

Two of those times have reportedly been within this past week.

“Stole some electronics and some other properties outside of the church. It's going to take considerable man hours to get everything cleaned up, let alone replace the stuff that is missing,” Lt. Weaver said.

Members of the congregation gathered today to help repair the damage.

Officers say the church will not be suspending any of their services, nor their childcare program in lieu of the break-in.

Still, police need help from the community to track down the person or people responsible.

“We have no idea whether it is one or more than that. Its seems to be a considerable amount of damage to be done by one person. You would think it would be more than that, but we have no idea,” Lt. Weaver said.
