Cowgirls Pull Away From Red Wolves To Win Season Opener

The Oklahoma State women's basketball team started the season off with a win by beating Arkansas State 76-34 in front of 3,124 fans inside Gallagher-Iba Arena.

With the win, OSU ran its non-conference home winning streak to 49 consecutive games and won its 11th consecutive home opener.

Despite 15 turnovers through the first 20 minutes, the Cowgirls held a 26-19 advantage at the break. Junior Kaylee Jensen nearly recorded a double-double before the half, pouring in 16 points to go with nine rebounds and two blocks.

The Cowgirls reeled off 19 consecutive points to start the third period, holding the Red Wolves scoreless for the first 5:13 of the quarter. In the period, sophomore Karli Wheeler connected on all four of her shots from the floor en route to 10 points. OSU outscored ASU 30-7 during the period to pull away.

For the game, OSU limited the Red Wolves to a 20 percent shooting effort from the floor while scoring 30 points off of 24 ASU turnovers.

Jensen logged her ninth career double-double, finishing with 22 points and 14 rebounds. She was joined in double figures by Wheeler, who finished with 13 points. Senior Katelyn Loecker added nine points and four assists, while freshman Areanna Combs had a game-high six steals and seven rebounds in her OSU debut.

The Cowgirls will be back in action on Nov. 15 when they host Tennessee State at 7 p.m.
