A routine traffic stop just outside of El Reno nets 130 pounds of marijuana and another 70 in a post-stop sting in Kansas City.

A car hauler was moving east from Tucson, Ariz., to make deliveries in Muskogee and Kansas City when Canadian County Sheriff's deputies stopped it for following too closely to another vehicle.

Once the driver agreed to let the deputy search the vehicles, Pickles, the drug dog, got to work. Pickles nosed out the 130 pound find in a car meant to be delivered to Kansas City. The driver was not a part of the smuggling operation.

Once the deputies found the payload, they contacted the U.S. Drug Enforcement Agency to see if their task force would support a "controlled delivery of the drugs, in hopes of apprehending the responsible parties."

“Because we work as task force members with the DEA," said Chris West, Canadian County Undersheriff, "we’re able to continue these cases across state lines, apprehending criminals in the illegal drug trade.”

The driver was instructed to complete his deliveries and once the mule car was unloaded to the original shipper as scheduled, the DEA task force, with help from local Kansas City authorities, followed it to a local home.

They found the other 70 pounds of marijuana along with various other drug and packing paraphernalia. In total, six people were arrested on drug conspiracies and drug trafficking charges. Authorities estimate the haul to be worth about $100,000.
