A 4-year-old boy and 25-year-old mother are dead after an apartment fire. Their family spoke out for the first time since the incident.

Donna’s mother, Katrina Burrell, said, “My child is a hero. She risked her life to save her 4-year-old son and her two babies that was there.”

Eighteen-month-old Teéshon and 8-month-old Deon are alive because Donna raced them out of the burning apartment. She ran back inside to try and save her 4-year-old son. He went by the name Zeus.

The 911 calls are sounds of panic. Video shows the ambulance taking Zeus and Donna to the hospital.

On Tuesday, soon after the fire, Zeus passed away. Donna was in critical condition and she died at the hospital Wednesday afternoon around 3:45.

Donna’s fiancé, Phillip Harding, was on his way home from work when he saw the chaos. He arrived at the apartment and realized it was his home on fire. About 20 minutes after he arrived, he saw them being taken away on stretchers.

“I couldn’t believe it,” said Phillip, “When the police officers told me Zeus didn’t make it, I just broke down.”

He said because of Donna, his two infants are still wrapped in his arms. Phillip said he will always remind them about their mother’s beautiful smile and big heart.

Phillip said, “She loved them to death. She would do anything for her kids. That is why she went back in there to try to get them.”

There are two GoFundMe pages. The family says donations will go toward funeral and fire expenses.
