OSU Women's Tennis: Cowgirls Fall To Stanford In National Championship
TULSA, Oklahoma - The Oklahoma State women’s tennis team battled Stanford for the national title Tuesday afternoon, but it was Stanford who prevailed after a long rally on the final point to win the match 7-5 and championship 4-3.
With the win, Stanford captured its 18th NCAA tennis title.
The Cowgirls made school history this season when the team beat fifth-seeded Georgia (4-0) and made it to the Elite Eight for the first time since the NCAA Tennis Championship expanded to a 64-team field.
OSU extended its historical season by advancing to the Final Four with a 4-2 win over No. 4 Ohio State, and then advanced to the title game with a 4-3 victory over No. 1 seed California.
Although the Cowgirls went down in a hard fought final match vs. the Cardinals, their season in its entirety certainly won’t be forgotten.
OSU wrapped its 2016 campaign at 29-5 overall and 9-0 in conference play.
