Student Arrested With Gun At Capitol Hill HS; Locked Down Lifted

Two Capitol Hill High School students are in custody after trying to burglarize a vehicle in the school parking lot. News 9 is told one of the students also had a gun on him at the time.

The school, located at 500 SW 36th St., was placed on lock down because of the incident. 

News 9 is told it all started when a pair of faculty members eating lunch outside noticed two students breaking into a vehicle in the school’s south parking lot. When the faculty members confronted the students, they noticed one of boys had a handgun on him.

Those faculty members confiscated the weapon, put the student in custody and called for police. The other student ran away but was soon apprehended by responding officers shortly after 12 p.m. The lock down was lifted after a brief investigation.

Police say the entire ordeal took place outside of the school and at no pint was any student in danger.

Originally the incident was reported to have stemmed from an altercation between two students.

Oklahoma City Schools spokesperson Mark Myers released the following statement regarding this incident:

"Staff members at Capitol Hill High School saw two students breaking into a vehicle in the south parking lot of the school after 11:00am. Staff members approached the students and noticed one of them had a hand gun (revolver) in his clothing. Staff took the student into custody and confiscated the weapon. Police were immediately notified and the school was placed on lockdown as a precaution while law enforcement searched for the second student who was later found by police. The entire incident happened outside of the school and no other students were ever in harm's way.The lockdown has been lifted, and school activities are back to normal."
