Security lines at many airports will keep you waiting at least an hour, and that has some airports now looking outside the TSA for help.

First of all, the number of fliers is way up. But the TSA has shifted its focus at checkpoints to enhanced screening. That's leaving some people waiting 90 minutes just to get their carry-on checked.

American Airlines says in one week last month, nearly 6,800 passengers missed their flights because of long security lines.

"We're working very hard to dramatically improve our ability to move people through, shifting resources to the highest-volume airports," said Peter Neffenger, TSA Administrator.

Dozens of airports including San Francisco and Kansas City International are using private firms for security screening.

We talked with Will Rogers World Airport, they tell us staffing levels have been reduced there. They're advising travelers arrive at least an hour and a half before their flight.
