My heart goes out to the Oklahomans being laid off in the energy industry, but I believe Oklahoma City's economy is much better positioned to handle this downturn than we were in the 80's.

Here's what you had to say:

Louise first, "Let's hope you are right and that there are jobs available for all these employees losing jobs."

Netie from Sayre says, "If you’re not in the oilfield you just don't understand! When it’s all you have known your entire life, it's not as easy as you think to find a job!"

From Jacklynn, "Last time around it wasn't only oil it was the banks also.

We survived that, hoping we do the same."

And Becky says, "Last time it happened seems like it was more severe and happened a lot faster!"

But Pam in Chickasha writes, "I have lived this life 35 years n I think it's gonna be the worst one."

Ann in Del City, "What goes up must come down and they should've planned for it."

Melissa asks, "Would it not have been better to ask all employees to take a pay cut including executives."

Chris says, "This will last about a year, within 3 years oil and gas will recover. Buy energy stock now. You're welcome."

Finally, from Barbara, "Lost my job at Tenneco in 1988, went to work at a hospital for a third less money. In two years was back in O&G.”

I'm Kelly Ogle and that's Your 2 Cents.
