Family Mourns The Loss Of Ingrid Williams
OKLAHOMA CITY - Oklahoma City Police said speed was a critical factor in a double fatality car crash that killed the wife of an OKC Thunder coach and another woman.
Ingrid Williams, wife of Thunder assistant coach Monty Williams, died Wednesday from injuries she suffered in the Tuesday night crash. The other driver, Susannah Donaldson, died at the scene.
Oklahoma City Police said Donaldson was driving at a high rate of speed when she hit Williams' SUV.
Ingrid Williams leaves behind five children.
“Upbeat, very outgoing, consummate wife and mother,” said Dr. Mark Hitchcock, the Williams' friend and pastor. “Every time you saw her at church, she always had her kids around her,” he added.
Ingrid and Monty Williams were married for nearly 30 years.
“When people love one another like they did and just have that team of their family, there's just no way that it can be anything other than agonizing,” Dr. Hitchcock told News 9.
Dr. Hitchcock is the pastor of Faith Bible Church in Edmond where the Williams attend. He said he was with Monty Williams as he told the children they lost their mother.
“It's brutal for him,” Dr. Hitchcock explained.
Oklahoma City Police are still investigating, but said Thursday a white car driven by Susannah Donaldson hit Williams's SUV head-on at S. Western just south of I-40 Tuesday night.
Police said Donaldson was speeding well over the 40 mph limit.
“If Mrs. Donaldson would have been traveling the posted speed limit, it is very highly likely that Mrs. Williams would have survived the crash,” said Oklahoma City Police Captain Paco Balderrama.
Police said Donaldson died at the scene, along with her dog that may have been in her lap.
Williams had just left her daughter's Oklahoma Christian School basketball game and had three of her children in the car with her. They are all okay.
“Her mother said it best...about Ingrid, ‘She was the best,’" Dr. Hitchcock said. “That's a great way to put it,” he added.
Funeral arrangements are pending.
Oklahoma City Police said the official report on the crash should be finished in about 10 days.
