NORMAN, Oklahoma -

Elderly Oklahomans who depend on Meals on Wheels are happy that their food is getting delivered again.

The winter weather forced several locations to shut down operations this week.

Drivers are now back on the road in Norman and checked in on clients after the storm.

Their first stop was a woman who revealed she has been sick since last week.

“I spent Christmas alone, didn’t want anyone to get sick from me,” she explained.

Snow and ice on the roads forced Meals On Wheels to cancel deliveries on Monday.

The week before, they had passed out blizzard bags with non-perishable food items just in case bad weather came.

“We always try to make sure they have at least one round of blizzard bags on hand just because you never know what the weather is going to do,” said Summer McGuire with Meals on Wheels in Norman.

Sure enough, those bags came in handy Monday.

“Actually yesterday, we sent out another round of blizzard bags just in case another round was to come through,” McGuire said.

Henry Bittner, 80, was the second stop.

He has not been out of the house since Sunday and revealed he has lost power off and on the past few days.

“I couldn't do without them,” Bittner said about the Meals On Wheels drivers who deliver to him.

Meals on Wheels in Norman serves 275 clients.

For many of them, this is the only interaction they have all day and their only lifeline if they need extra help this winter.

“You're always happy to see somebody and if you can see somebody and talk to them, it makes your day,” Bittner told News 9.

Meals On Wheels has several volunteers with 4-wheel drive vehicles in case they have to get to someone during bad weather.
