OKLAHOMA CITY -

A 22-year-old man was arrested in connection with the murder of an Oklahoma National Guardsman.

Deshawn Colbert is accused of shooting 24-year-old Devin Fuller in a Northwest Oklahoma City parking lot earlier this month.

The arrest warrant states Oklahoma City Police were able to match a picture of Colbert taken the night of the shooting with his Facebook page, and were able to track him down from there.

“It’s like the best outcome you could hope for,” said Kenneth Ward, who still can't believe his combat buddy is gone.

“It was crushing,” said Ward. “It was like watching a little brother be buried.”

Both Ward and Fuller served in Afghanistan together. They survived despite seeing a fair share of heavy combat.

“And then to come home and to think your safe - and to be killed at home where you should be safe,” said Ward. “Absolutely made no sense.”

Police were able to identify Deshawn Colbert as the man responsible for killing Fuller after a witness came forward and gave them a picture of Colbert taken at the club on the night of the shooting. The club is located in the 1200 block of North Pennsylvania.

Court documents state the witness ran into Colbert and his brother in the parking lot of the club November 1. And as the witness walked away, he heard several gunshots coming from the crowd where Colbert was standing. The witness said he saw Colbert with a hand gun shooting at his direction, and that he was the only one shooting.

“Oklahoma City Police Department did an excellent job,” said Ward. “Got the guy as soon as the warrant came out! And whoever came forward, that's awesome! That's amazing! They actually had a heart.”

So what was Fuller doing in the parking lot?

Ward says he was there to give a friend a ride home, because the friend had too much to drink. Little did he know that act of kindness would put him right in the line of fire. Ward is just thankful a witness came forward.

“To have something like this go unsolved, that would have been crushing- no closure at all,” said Ward. “But now there's closure.”

Colbert is being held in the county jail without bond. He faces first degree murder but is yet to be formally charged.
