A young girl is the only survivor following a crash that killed a woman and another child late Sunday night.

Despite calls to 911, it wasn't until Monday morning that the victims were found near SE 149 Street and Harrah Road.

Police were called about 11 p.m. Sunday night by neighbors who thought they heard a motorcycle going incredibly fast down SE 149 Street crash.

But police couldn't find a wreck.

Those same neighbors went back out this morning and found a scene far worse.

The scene was lost in the darkness, more than 100 feet off the roadway, Oklahoma City police said.

An injured child waited until morning for help to arrive as the car she was inside sits upside down in a ditch hidden behind trees and invisible to first responders.

“It’s horrifying. I couldn’t even imagine what that family is going through right now,” said Kelly Warden who lives nearby. “Couldn’t even imagine it.”

It's a scene Warden, who lives just down the road, says he'll never forget.

“I mean, it was a shock to see it. It was just awful. I wish they would have found them last night though,” Warden said.

He saw a woman and a child lifeless on the ground after apparently being ejected from their car.

Police believe she was driving eastbound down Harrah Rd, when something went horribly wrong.

“It sounded like a motorcycle, and then there was like tires or something, and then there was like a loud bang,” said Rex Spottedcorn, who was visiting a friend.

“It just sounded like tires squealing,” Isaiah Brown said.

But at this point in the investigation, police said there is no evidence of a motorcycle, or even skid marks on the road.

“It kind of looked like they were going down the hill and they like swerved to avoid something, and it just looked like they crashed,” Spottedcorn said.

People who live in the area tell us the stretch of road has been dangerous for quite some time.

Police are trying to figure out exactly what happened.

“There is a lot of hills, and there’s a lot of blind turns through here, so you don’t go fast,” Warden said.

“It can happen to any one of us at any time,” Spottedcorn said.

News 9 was told the survivor of the crash  was taken to OU Children's Hospital with some broken bones but is expected to make a full recovery.

The name of the woman and child killed have not been released.
