OKLAHOMA CITY -

A dramatic video surfaced of a man allegedly beating his wife in a North Oklahoma City parking lot.

Police have since arrested the man, and the violent video has been shared more than 23,000 times.

Douglas Lee Beckham, 52, sits in the county jail facing at least three criminal complaints, one of those is assault with a deadly weapon.

The video posted to Facebook Wednesday, has Oklahoma City police taking a closer look.

The incident happened August 6, but police were never even aware a video of the altercation existed until now.

“Obviously it makes it a much more compelling case to make,” said Paco Balderrama, OCPD.

Three men and two women intervened.

“It could have gotten a lot uglier than it did,” said Balderrama.

Police say the couple is homeless. Beckham and his wife of four years, stayed the night in their vehicles in a parking lot in the 8000 block of Northwest Expressway.

A physical fight started inside a suburban after a disagreement at a nearby drive-thru. Police say the victim was allegedly hit once with an open hand.

Beckham then got out of the suburban with the couple's dog, took the key, and got into his truck.

Beckham's wife, locked inside, kicked the window out and climbed into the bed of Beckham's truck bleeding from cuts and bruises on her leg.

“He was seen hitting her at least one time with this flashlight,” said Balderrama.

Then, two men confronted Beckham.

As he tried to leave with his wife in the bed of the truck, there's a violent struggle. But just when it appeared to be over, the guy recording jumps into the back of the truck.

Moments later, you hear the back window shatter.

Beckham sped off, but it wasn't long before police found and arrested him.

Police say Beckham's wife is not pressing charges, but police say the evidence in that video is compelling enough for the state to file charges.
