Dodgers Lose Opener To Sky Sox

The Colorado Springs Sky Sox built a 6-0 lead and went on to win their series opener, 6-2, against the Oklahoma City Dodgers Wednesday at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark.

The Colorado Springs Sky Sox built a 6-0 lead and went on to win their series opener, 6-2, against the Oklahoma City Dodgers Wednesday at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark.

The Dodgers (67-44) suffered a second straight loss as the teams opened a five-game series in front of a crowd of 4,257.

Oklahoma City threatened to score early in the game, but left the bases loaded in the bottom of the second inning.

The Sky Sox (44-65) took the lead in the third inning when Pete Orr hit a RBI single with two outs to give Colorado Springs a 1-0 lead.

The Sky Sox opened the fourth inning with four straight hits to build a 4-0 lead.

Former RedHawk Domingo Santana and Michael Reed hit back-to-back singles. Santana scored on a double by Matt Dominguez and a RBI single by Juan Centeno brought home Reed. Yadiel Rivera grounded into a double play to bring home the third run of the inning for the Sky Sox.

Santana, who finished with a game-high three hits, hit a RBI single on a liner to center field and scored on a Dodgers fielding error for a 6-0 Sky Sox lead in the top of the fifth.

In the bottom of the fifth, Corey Seager hit a RBI single to right field to cut the Sky Sox lead to 6-1.

Seager collected his second RBI on a double to the wall in left field to cut Colorado Springs’ lead to 6-2 in the bottom of the seventh inning.

Starting pitcher Zach Davies (1-0) earned his first win with the Sky Sox, holding the Dodgers to one run and six hits over 6.0 innings.

Dodgers starting pitcher Carlos Frias pitched one hitless and scoreless inning before being replaced by reliever Danny Coulombe for the second inning. Coulombe held the Sky Sox to one hit.

Joe Wieland (7-5) entered the game in the third inning and pitched 5.0 innings, allowing six runs (five earned) and 10 hits with one walk and five strikeouts in the loss.

Colorado Springs outhit Oklahoma City, 13-9.
