Second Tulsa Man Drowns Over Weekend

Rangers of the Oklahoma Scenic Rivers Commission reported on Sunday that a 26-year-old man from Tulsa drowned on Barren Fork Creek at Welling Bridge in Cherokee County.

Rangers of the Oklahoma Scenic Rivers Commission report there was a drowning on Sunday in Cherokee County.

A spokesperson said a 26-year-old man from Tulsa drowned on Barren Fork Creek at Welling Bridge.

The man was wading in the creek with friends when they all stepped into water over their heads. The drowning victim was a non-swimmer and was not wearing a life jacket, a news release says.

A search and rescue effort was conducted at 5 p.m. by OSRC Rangers, Welling Fire Dept. & Illinois River Fire Dept. Recovery was made at 6:30 p.m.

This makes the fifth drowning this summer on Oklahoma's Scenic Rivers.

In addition, it is the second Tulsa man to drown this weekend. A 27-year-old man drowned in Holdenville Lake on Saturday.
