Family Holds Vigil To Honor Laura Brooks, Murdered Mother Of 5

Laura Brooks’ kids wanted to say something about their mom on Sunday afternoon. “I miss her,” her 7-year-old said.

Three days ago, their mom was found beaten to death inside her southwest Oklahoma City apartment.

At their age, this is all too much to process. “With the kids…it’s their questions,” Laura’s mother said about the difficulty she faces after her daughter’s death.

On Thursday morning, the kids were dropped off at daycare by Devin Timmons, Laura’s boyfriend. Laura’s family called him DJ.

And authorities arrested him Sunday night for First Degree Murder. US Marshals took him into custody from 310 S.E. 180^th in Norman, with the assistance of the Absentee Shawnee Tribal police.

Sunday, Laura's family and friends sent balloons into the sky to honor her memory. They wrote messages on posters outside her window. And some brought supplies for her children now in need.

“It just breaks my heart to come over here and look at what the kids had and now everything is basically taken from them,” Ben Brooks, Laura’s brother said.

It's both heartbreaking and infuriating for the family as they try to come to terms with her brutal murder.

“I’m so angry at God. I know that God takes people in his own time, but in my heart I just don’t think that this was her time to go,” Nancy Brooks, Laura’s mother said.

Her parents said the couple had a rocky relationship, riddled with domestic violence.

“DJ took a big part of our hearts,” Randy Brooks, Laura’s father explained.

They hope anyone in a dangerous relationship will take their loss as a lesson.

“Get out of it. Back off. There’s family, there’s friends, there’s pastors, there are people that understand and you don’t have to stay in the situation,” Randy advised.
