Every mock draft under the sun predicts the Thunder will draft Murray State point guard Cameron Payne. It makes sense. Rumor has it OKC has promised they'll draft Payne if he's available when the Thunder pick at No. 14. Payne could wind up being a solid backup to Russell Westbrook if D.J. Augustin leaves after his contract ends after the season. But why make the safe play?

The Thunder should reach a little bit with the 14th pick, and get a guy who can play off  Kevin Durant and Russell Westbrook. Two players they should seriously consider: Notre Dame guard Jerian Grant, the son of former Sooner Harvey Grant, and Justin Anderson, a 6-foot-6, 227-pound guard from Virginia. Both guys are projected to go in the early 20s of the first round of the draft.

Grant is pretty versatile. He's 6-foot-5, 202, and can play the point or shooting guard. He has the look of a guy who could play right away, and he'd have no pressure playing for an established team in OKC. He led Notre Dame in points and assists per game last year. His brother, Jerami, plays for the 76ers, and his uncle, Horace, and father, Harvey, also played for years in the NBA. Basketball is in his blood.

Anderson is a classic "3-and-D" guy. He's a very good defender, and made 45 percent of his 3-point attempts last year. It's like having an Andre Roberson who could make open 3s. He may also be able to contribute this year.

The Thunder should take the guy who's the best fit. It doesn't matter where you take him. If he works for you, then draft him at 14. Who cares if he's projected to go 21st or 22nd?
