A jury sides with a former little league coach accused of child sex crimes.

Chad Casula, 43, was found not guilty of lewd acts with a child under 16, Wednesday night.

He maintained his innocence during the two year court process -- waiting for his day in court to prove it.

"The everyday citizen thinks certainly it has to take more than just someone saying it happened and you denying that it happened to end up in front of a jury trial," said Scott Adams, the prominent Oklahoma City defense attorney representing Casula. Adams said that all that occurred before taking Casula to trial.

"I think it opened his eyes up and made him realize that a lot of times the system may not be fair but at the end of the day, that's the reason we have the jury system"

The jury deliberated for nearly four hours before reaching a ‘not guilty' verdict.

Adams explained there were several flaws in the case that likely led to that verdict -- and should've been enough to have the charges dismissed in the first place.

"A lot of this could've been avoided in my opinion by simple, complete and thorough investigation," said Adams.

In court, Adams also pointed out the lead detective did not conduct a search of the home or interview witnesses. Instead, the case seemed built on the word of the 13-year-old girl who claimed Casula made her do sexual things in the shower when she was younger.

The allegations surfaced in 2013, several years after the crime was allegedly committed, and during a contentious divorce between Casula and the girl's mother.

The verdict stoked the lingering animosity yesterday. The girl's biological father appeared to be aggressive, being held back by other family members following the verdict.

"It's not worth it. He's a sick son of a b**** who got away with it," a family member shouted as Casula walked away with his freedom.

Casula and his defense did not let the comments overshadow their relief to have this all behind them now.

"It was unfortunate he had to go through it, but thank God he is able to spend some time with his family," said Adams.

Casula plans to rekindle a relationship with his son and return to coaching little league baseball now that the court restrictions have been lifted.
