Suspect Killed After Firing Shots At Officers In Choctaw Co.

Two law enforcement officers were shot and the alleged shooter was killed Thursday morning in Choctaw County, Oklahoma.

Two law enforcement officers were shot and the alleged shooter was killed Thursday morning in Choctaw County, Oklahoma.

According to CBS affiliate KXII, the incident happened when officers from several agencies were in the process of making an arrest in the unincorporated town of Rufe, Oklahoma.

Officers from Choctaw County Sheriff's Department, the Hugo Police Department, and a couple of Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation agents assisted, KXII reported. 

"About 5:30 a.m. there was a report of gunshots in rural Choctaw County," OSBI spokesperson Jenny Virden told KXII. "When officers were trying to make a probable cause arrest, the suspect opened fire and hit two of the officers."

According to KXII, officers returned fire, killing the suspect. 

One of the injured officers has been identified as Hugo Police Lt. Steve Babcock. According to Choctaw County Sheriff Terry Park, Babcock is in critical, but stable condition.
