OKLAHOMA CITY -

A single father of three is shot to death in front of his children.

Police said Jerry Jamison, 41, died during a shootout with robbers in his home near S.W. 22nd and Independence, Thursday.

Two of the suspects are in custody, and a third suspect is on the run.

The victim's 14-year-old son, Simeon, wants the suspect caught and said he and his sibling will not be able to rest easy until that happens.

"[Jerry Jamison] died defending his family," Simeon said. Like his father, Simeon also fought to protect their home yesterday.

Police said Jerry Jamison, better known as J.J., was home with his kids when David Cox, 22, and Russell Ermeling, 21, knocked at the door.

Both were allowed in the home, but at some point, police said, Ermeling pulled out a pistol and demanded cash.

"Why would they do that to a man that is innocent and just trying to raise three kids,” asked Simeon Jamison.

Simeon said his father was shot three times during the robbery.

"I was the one that put a towel on his side,” recounted Simeon, tears in his eyes, “and held his wounds while he was dying."

The two suspects then tried to make a get-away, but Simeon wasn't going to let that happen, not without a fight at least.

"I grabbed a gun and shot at the car that was driving off,” Simeon explained.

The teenager said the suspect who was shot tried to run from the house, but “I hit him with the gun, I pistol whipped him,” said Simeon, “and then I threw the gun at the back of his head and started punching him. And then he got over there and fell in the driveway."

Police said that suspect, David Cox, was found at the scene, with a gunshot wound. Ermeling was able to escape, driving away with an unknown suspect. He later turned himself into authorities in Tecumseh.

Simeon Jamison is now left to grieve the loss of a man he said made him proud every day.

"He was the best dad you could ever have," said Simeon, “I love my dad with all of my heart."

Simeon said he and his family are still very uneasy with a third suspect still on the run.
