Oklahoma Stuns No. 3 Baylor In Norman

NORMAN, Oklahoma -

It's been a long time since the Oklahoma women's basketball team has beaten Baylor. In fact, no one on the current roster has experienced such a thing.

That's no longer the case, as the feisty Sooners pulled off yet another surprise in a season full of them, downing the No. 3 Lady Bears, 68-64 at Lloyd Noble Center.

The win snapped Baylor's 25-game winning streak and was the first win over Baylor for Oklahoma since the 2010 Big 12 tournament. The win also clinched the No. 2 seed for the Sooners in next weekend's Big 12 tournament in Dallas.

Baylor routed the Sooners in Waco just two weeks ago, but Wednesday night, the Sooners battened down the hatches on the defensive end and kept the Bears out of the paint. Two weeks ago the Bears put up 50 points in the paint; Wednesday, OU held Baylor to just 22.

Oklahoma grabbed a 10-point lead in the first half and held the lead for nearly the entire game. Baylor took its first lead with 8:09 to play on a layup and one from Nina Davis. Baylor extended its lead to 62-56 with 3:35 to play and looked like it was going to spoil a great effort from the Sooners.

But the Sooners wouldn't go away, rallying quickly to take a 63-62 lead on a Peyton Little's 3-pointer with 1:49 to play. A Baylor bucket was followed by a pair of trips to the free throw line from Kaylon Williams, where she went 2-of-4, giving OU a 65-64 lead with 30 seconds remaining. Imani Wright missed a jumper for Baylor, allowing the Sooners to close out the win at the free throw line.

Williams and Sharane Campbell-Olds each scored 15 points to lead the Sooners, while Little scored 13 points. Gioya Carter chipped in with 12 points.

Davis led Baylor with 20 points and 11 rebounds. Alexis Prince was the only other Baylor player in double figures with 12.

Oklahoma closes out its home slate on Saturday against Kansas, before closing the regular season on Monday night for the second edition of Bedlam. Both games are set for 7 p.m.
