STROTHER, Oklahoma -

Students said it's gross and parents said they want to know why. We're talking about the tap water at Strother K-12 School, which is an hour southeast of Oklahoma City off I-40.

Kids and parents told us the school's water turned murky with brown particles floating around in it about a week ago. Strother Superintendent Chad Broughton told News 9 Friday afternoon Oklahoma's DEQ tested the school's water less than two weeks ago, and he said it checked out OK.

However, less than an hour after Broughton told us that, a DEQ spokesperson told us they haven't been out to check the water at Strother since Feb. 2013.

Rachelle Tenpenny has a 6-year-old son who attends the school. “I believe I am being lied to,” she said. “You can see things floating in it. You can see it settling at the bottom of the jar. It's disgusting. It looks like pee!”

Kolton Salinas, 17, is a senior and plays basketball at the school. We caught up to him after practice Friday. “Its' really pretty nasty,” he said. “I'd rather go thirsty than drink that water, but it's the only water we have so that's what we do.”
