OKLAHOMA CITY -

Oklahoma City police said they are looking for a mail thief who they said has been stealing mail for months from at least three locations.

The man only targets apartment complexes and a few of those had surveillance cameras rolling on his latest crimes.

“We've been taking these calls, these reports, for several months now,” said OCPD Sgt. Jennifer Wardlow. “We have several reports, same incident basically,” she added.

Oklahoma City police said they believe the man has been stealing from mailboxes since June and tends to target apartments on the south side of the city.

One of the apartments is Carmel Terrace on 56th and S May Avenue.

In the video, you can see the man use a tool to open the apartment mailbox that contains the mail of several people who live at the complex.

“He is specifically targeting these apartment mailboxes where there is obviously a large number of victims,” Sgt. Wardlow explained.

One complex near 104th and S Pennsylvania Avenue did not want to be identified, but gave News 9 footage from three different days showing the same man stealing tenants' mail.

That particular apartment is desperate to catch the thief and even bought a camera for the mailroom just to catch him.

“Somebody we want to get caught, obviously he's hit several times,” Sgt. Wardlow told News 9. “We want to catch him before he's able to strike again,” she added.

In his latest crimes, the thief did not even try to hide the tool.

He walked to the mail room holding it in plain sight.

You can see the man sorting through the mail and tossing what he does not want into a nearby trash can.

“If there is somebody who is simply walking by and not actually paying attention to what he's doing, they might think he's a tenant there just checking his mail at the mailbox,” Sgt. Wardlow added.

The suspect is a white man in his late 20's to early 30's.

If you recognize him, call Crime Stoppers at (405) 235-7300.
