Police say the quick thinking by a Bricktown bar patron early Saturday led to the arrest of a rape suspect.

Ryan Farris says he was walking to his car that was parked outside Mickey Mantle's just after 2 a.m. Saturday.  He was in an alley a block northeast of Mantel Wine and Bistro, when a woman with only half her clothes on flagged him down. Farris says the woman was clearly distraught, and told him she had just been raped.

Farris says he then saw a man sprinting away from the scene. Farris says he sprinted after the suspect.

"And then I started yelling ‘Rape! The guy just raped a girl! The guy just raped a girl!' Just trying to get everyone to stop the guy," he said.

Farris says other bar patrons joined him in the chase for several blocks. Police say they caught the man, who they've identified as 35-year-old Juan Beltran, near NE 4th St. and Oklahoma. He's being held in the Oklahoma County Jail for suspicion of rape.

The victim was taken to a local hospital, evaluated and treated for minor injuries. Farris says he still believes Bricktown is a safe place to enjoy area nightspots.

"There's bad people everywhere and we took one off the street," he said. "Otherwise that guy could have been doing that over and over and over, and we just got lucky."
