USGS Reports 4.0 Magnitude Earthquake Near Perry

PERRY, Oklahoma -

The United States Geological Survey reported a 4.0 magnitude earthquake near Perry Saturday morning.

The quake shook Noble county residents around 4:43 a.m. Saturday. The USGS said the earthquake was located one mile southeast of Perry, 14 miles northwest of Stillwater. The depth was recorded over two miles deep.

One viewer contacted News 9 to report the shaking and said the earthquake "knocked stuff of the wall."

About two hours earlier, at 2:40 a.m., a 2.7 magnitude earthquake shuddered three miles southeast of Stillwater, 24 miles northeast of Guthrie.

The USGS also reported a 2.8 magnitude tremor at 2:07 a.m. 12 miles southwest of Medford, 17 miles north of Enid.

The 2:07 and 2:40 a.m. earthquakes were both recorded at a depth of just over three miles.

There are no reports of major injury or damage at this time.

According to the USGS, earthquakes with magnitudes ranging from 2.5 to 3.0 are generally the smallest ones felt by humans. Damage is more likely from quakes at a 4.0 magnitude and higher.
