Overnight Earthquakes Rattle Near Perry, Guthrie

PERRY, Oklahoma -

Four earthquakes rattled residents overnight near the Perry and Guthrie areas.

Around 11:32 p.m. Friday, the United States Geological Survey recorded a 3.8 magnitude tremor three miles southeast of Perry, 13 miles northwest of Stillwater. The depth was reported just over one mile deep.

Residents near Stillwater contacted News 9 to report the shaking.

About a half hour later, at 12:03 a.m., a second tremor shook seven miles southwest of Guthrie, eight miles north of Edmond. The quake was recorded as a 2.5 magnitude and had a depth over three miles.

Perry residents experienced a second quake at 3 a.m. Saturday. The USGS recorded it as a 3.0 magnitude located one mile east of Perry, at a depth of over two miles.

The last overnight earthquake occurred at 4:21 a.m. Saturday, at a depth of over three miles. The 2.6 magnitude tremor was located two miles west of Jones, six miles northwest of Choctaw.

The most recent earthquake reported by the USGS was a 3.3 magnitude quake around 10:13 a.m. Saturday. It was located one mile southwest of Langston, at a depth of just over three miles. 

There are no reports of major injury or damage at this time.

According to the USGS, earthquakes with magnitudes ranging from 2.5 to 3.0 are generally the smallest ones felt by humans. Damage is more likely from quakes at a 4.0 magnitude and higher.
