Fallin Appoints Lawton Attorney For OU Board of Regents

Governor Mary Fallin has appointed a Lawton attorney and newspaper publisher to the University of Oklahoma Board of Regents.

Governor Mary Fallin has appointed a Lawton attorney and newspaper publisher to the University of Oklahoma Board of Regents.

Fallin on Wednesday named Bill Burgess Jr. to a seven-year term on the governing body of OU, Cameron University in Lawton and Rogers State University in Claremore. Her appointment must be confirmed by the Senate.

Currently chairman of the board an investment company, Burgess also is publisher of The Lawton Constitution and senior partner at Burgess & Hightower law firm. He previously served as a regent with the Oklahoma State Regents for Higher Education for 18 years from 1993 to 2011.

Burgess is replacing Rick Dunning, an oil company executive appointed by former Governor Brad Henry in 2007.
