A 6-month-old baby is in the hospital and the man police believe is his father is in jail. Police say the man led them on a high speed chase with the baby inside the car.

It all ended at 71st and Riverside Tuesday afternoon, where 18-year-old Andrew Crowels was arrested.

We still don't know the exact condition of the baby, but police say he was revived at the hospital after flying around inside the car during the pursuit.

The view from Osage SkyNews 6 showed police investigating the suspect's car after it was left in the parking lot of the China King restaurant. Police say a patrol officer clocked the car at 75 miles an hour in a 35 mile an hour zone, near 71st and Elwood.

The officer began pursuit and the car took off.

"Getting up to a speed of about a hundred miles an hour here at 71st and Riverside," said Capt. Cathy Reynolds, of Tulsa Police.

The officer stopped chasing the car, due to the danger of pursuing the car in the middle of afternoon traffic. According to the arrest report, Crowels then struck another vehicle from behind and took off.

Reynolds said Crowels then pulled into the parking lot and ran away from his car. Police found the man and arrested him.

Crowels then told police about the baby, who was still inside his abandoned car.

Police found the 6-month-old boy laying on the front floorboard of the car, they say it looked like he had gone flying through the car during the pursuit.

"So he had gone from the backseat to the front floorboard," Reynolds said.

Officers say the baby was awake when they first took him out of the car, but a short time later he stopped breathing and was rushed to a hospital, where he was resuscitated.

They say there was a car seat inside the suspect's car, but the baby was not strapped in.

"The car seat was in the back. The car seat itself was not restrained to the actual seat in the car, nor was the child strapped into the car seat, he merely was sitting on it," Reynolds said.

Police say Crowels threw several items out of the car during the pursuit, including a handgun which they were able to recover.

Crowels was booked into the Tulsa County jail on complaints of eluding (endangering others), child neglect, hit and run, possession of a firearm in the commission of a felony, possession of marijuana, and aggravated speeding. He is being held on $75,750 bond.
