Many fun, family-oriented events are scheduled to take place at the Myriad Botanical Gardens in Oklahoma City, as we step into the fall season this year.

EVERY WEDNESDAY IN OCTOBER 10a.m.

Reading Rainforest

Lobby of the Crystal Bridge

Free

Best for ages 2-5

Bring your youngster for story time each Wednesday at 10a.m.. Books are nature-themed and selected based on the season. Children can enjoy creating a small craft following the story. Take a tour of the Crystal Bridge or stroll through the children's garden with your child afterward to explore the wonders of nature.

Spooky Stories

Children's Garden

Free October 2 and 9; Cost of Admission to Pumpkinville October 16, 23, and 30

Join us each Wednesday evening in children's garden for spooky stories. After the story children will create a small craft to take home. Stories include: Where the Wild Things Are by Maurice Sendak, There Was an Old Monster by Ed Emberly, Little Goblins Ten by Pa.m.ela Jane, The Curious Little Witch by Lieve Baeten, and Va.m.pire Boy's Goodnight by Lisa Brown.

EVERY TUESDAY EVENING IN OCTOBER

Yoga

5:30 - 6:30p.m., Pavilion or or Terrace Room if it's too cold

$5 members, $10 non-members

Ahhh…what could be more relaxing than a Tree Pose in the Gardens? A great class for all levels. Bring a mat, towel and water. Taught by Alexis Persico of the Yoga Room.

Gallery Exhibit: Selections from the Howell Gallery

Mon. - Sat. 9a.m. – 5p.m.; Sun. 11a.m. – 5p.m.

South Lobby of the Crystal Bridge, Free to the public

Oklahoma City's acclaimed Howell Gallery will mount an exhibition of its artists' works. All are available for purchase, with a percentage of each sale benefitting the Gardens. A public opening reception will be held Thursday, Oct. 10 from 5 to 7p.m..

Fantastic Fall Pumpkin Centerpiece

Terrace Room, Karla Richards, KSR Designs (Owner)

$45 members; $50 non-members

Not your ordinary Jack-O-Lantern! Learn how to transform your pumpkin in to a beautiful fall centerpiece using fresh florals in a variety of fall colors. Leave with a fantastic piece that the entire fa.m.ily will love.

Children's Garden

General Pumpkinville admission is free for members, $5 per child; $3 for adult non-members. Pumpkins for painting are $5 each. Pumpkinville is a celebration of pumpkins and all things fall. The entire Children's Garden will be transformed into a fun-filled wonderland featuring 3000 pumpkins, ga.m.es, crafts and activities, spooky storytelling, cider pressing, a hay bale maze, pumpkin painting and much much more!

Cornhusk Characters

A special craft practiced by Native A.m.ericans and early settlers, cornhusk dolls are historically significant, fun to make, and require minimal materials. Enjoy a favorite pastime and create your own special character from a corn husk. All supplies provided. For all ages.

Lunchtime Pilates Begins: 6 Week Class

11:30a.m. - 12:30p.m., Terrace Room

$5 members, $10 non-members

Professional Pilates instructor, Leila Pourabaee, guides guests of all skill levels through this introductory course. Build flexibility, muscle strength, and endurance at Pilates class.

BUG Eyes

Whimsical Creatures

Listen to short excerpts from Maurice Sendak's, Where the Wild Things Are and look at characters created by Maurice Sendak for inspiration. Afterward create whimsical imaginary creatures out of self-hardening clay and found materials. This fun class will fill fast so call ahead to reserve a spot!

Exploring Home Brewing

Terrace Room, Gail White, Home Brew Shop (Owner)

$25 members; $30 non-members

Interested in home brewing? Come to the gardens this October to learn from The Brew Shop the ins and outs of home brewing! The autumn seasonal brew Pumpkin Spice Porter will be made using the "mini-mash" process. From steeping to boiling to adding hops and tasting some home brew, this will be a fun class! Class size is limited so sign up today! You must be 21 to register.

Self-Sustainable Living: A Lecture Series with Tim Tillman

Nature Assemblage

Water Plaza Room, Shannon Stephens, Director of Education; $35 members; $40 non-members

Assemblage is a form of sculpture comprised of found objects. In this workshop learn to construct a shadow box with repurposed wood and create interesting vignettes using natural materials. Bring your own ha.m.mer! All other materials included.
