Workers rushed about 2,000 people into the underground tunnels. Many spent the night there. Some of the people who took cover at the airport came from businesses in the area.

The airport shut down Friday night because of debris on the airfield. Power has been restored at the airport Saturday morning, and the airport is back open.

According to airport officials, there has been significant damage to the roof of the airport terminal which has resulted in flooding and water damage to walls, counters and floors. Other property impacted included one commercial plane parked at a jet bridge, several aircraft at other businesses on airport property, parking canopies, light poles and numerous buildings on the airport property.

Airport staff is still assessing damage and does not have an estimate of the cost.

Airport building and field maintenance crews have been working nonstop on repairs and assisting tenants and passengers since the terminal was evacuated Friday night.
