SHAWNEE, Oklahoma -

Two St. Gregory's University basketball players have been named to the Capital One Academic All-District VII first team as announced by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).

Leticia Silva of the women's team and Brock Vorwald of the men's team received the honor Thursday. As first-team selections, they are now added to the ballot for consideration to the CoSIDA Academic All-America Team which will be announced in February.

In order to be selected to an academic all-district team, a student-athlete must demonstrate success on the playing field and in the classroom, with academic and athletic achievements taken into consideration. The student-athlete must possess a minimum 3.30 cumulative GPA and be at least a sophomore in academic standing.

The SGU student-athletes were selected in the college division, which includes NAIA, Canadian and two-year schools. District VII includes schools in Arizona, Colorado, Idaho, New Mexico, Nevada, Oklahoma, Texas, Utah and Wyoming.

Silva, a senior from Whitesboro, Texas, is a four-year starter for the Cavs and has led the team in many statistical categories throughout her career. She has more than 1,653 career points, ranking her first all-time at SGU. Silva last year was named a Daktronics NAIA Scholar Athlete and is a member of Delta Epsilon Sigma National Honor Society.

Silva was a third-team all-conference selection in 2012 and leads the team in points, rebounds and field goal percentage this season. She has a 3.70 grade-point average while majoring in biomedical sciences.

Vorwald, who was an academic all-district selection in soccer last fall, is a member of the National Honor Society and Catholic National Honor Society. He has played in 70 games in his time at SGU, shooting 57 percent from the field during that span.

Vorwald, a junior from Norman, is parliamentarian of the Student Government Association. He has a 3.84 grade-point average while majoring in biomedical sciences.
