STILLWATER, Oklahoma -

Former Oklahoma State tennis standout Oleksandr Nedovyesov has been selected to compete in the qualifying rounds of the Australian Open, one of the Association of Tennis Professionals' four Grand Slam tournaments.

Nedovyesov has only competed in one career ATP World Tour singles match, but is coming off his highest career ATP ranking at No. 205. He will begin play tonight against Thiemo De Bakker, ranked 129th in the ATP Rankings and seeded 13th overall for the tournament.

The Australian Open is one of the ATP World Tour's most prestigious tournaments. The Grand Slam is on par with the likes of Wimbledon, the French Open and the US Open.

Nedovyesov compiled an overall singles record of 105-23 and sat at the No. 1 spot in the ITA Rankings multiple times between 2007-10, earning the Alushta, Ukraine native numerous awards and honors.

After being named the Big 12 Freshman of the Year and the Big 12 Newcomer of the Year in 2007, Nedovyesov began his rise toward becoming one of the most successful athletes in Oklahoma State history.

Over the course of his career, Nedovyesov was named to the Big-12 All-Conference Team four times, while being named a member of the ITA All-America Team his sophomore, junior and senior years. His outstanding play also earned him Big 12 Player of the Year honors in 2008 and 2009.

However, Nedovyesov's most impressive accolade came after being named the ITA National Player of the Year in 2009, making him the only Cowboy to ever win the award. The award was given to Nedovyesov after racking up an 18-3 dual record in singles play and competing in the ITA Indoor National Championships in both singles and doubles.

Despite his enormous amount of success on the court, Nedovyesov also excelled in the classroom, earning Academic All Big-12 honors in 2008, 2009 and 2010, while being named an ITA Scholar Athlete in 2007, 2009 and 2010. His 3.81 overall GPA also made him the recipient of the 2010 Oklahoma State Student-Athlete of the Year award.

"He's the most decorated player in the history of our program," former OSU head coach James Wadley said. "He's the first three-time All-American we've had. He was the Big 12 Player of the Year two times. He was the National Player of the Year and National Player to Watch in 2009. There's really nothing more you can say about Oleksandr Nedovyesov. He's the best player in the history of our program and an outstanding young man on and off the tennis court."
