NORMAN, Oklahoma -
It was a
tight, hard-fought, crazy game. You
might just call it Bedlam.
The OU women's
soccer team upset the third-ranked Oklahoma State Cowgirls 1-0 Friday night in Norman
in front of nearly 2,500 fans.
Renae
Cuellar's goal in the 67th minute gave the Sooners' all the offense
they would need to take down OSU for the first time since 2005. It marks only the third win all-time against
Oklahoma State, opposing 17 losses.
OSU owned a
20-9 advantage in shots and a 10-1 advantage in corner kick attempts, but
despite countless scoring chances and numerous near-misses, OU held on.
Cowgirls'
head coach Colin Carmichael was disappointed with the loss, but credited the
Sooners for their effort and victory.
"You've got
to give credit to the Oklahoma kids – they played really hard," said Carmichael.
"Once they got the lead, they really sat in and defended it well and made it
tough for us to break down. But from our perspective, if you create 20 shots on
goal, you've got to score one. That's where we're disappointed."
OU improved
to 4-2-1 on the 2012 season, while OSU fell to 6-1-0. The rematch comes in Stillwater September
30.
