A man called Oklahoma City police after he said he was attacked, but he's the one who ended up in handcuffs, accused of having sex with a 12-year-old girl.

Police say 25-year-old suspect Victor Luis Varela called police to a southeast Oklahoma City home on July 29. He claimed a man assaulted him in his room, but he didn't know why.

According to the police report, the victim's mother yelled out Varela was a liar. She said her boyfriend had attacked Varela because he'd had sex with the woman's 12-year-old daughter. Varela lives with the victim's aunt and the aunt's fiancée.

The girl's mother told police she was looking through her daughter's cell phone two weeks earlier, and found sexually-explicit text messages between the girl and Varela. She confronted her daughter, who denied having sex with Varela. The girl claimed a friend used her phone to send the texts. The woman asked her daughter's friend about the messages, and she confirmed the girl's story. The mother said her daughter had never been in any trouble, so she believed her.

The woman said on July 29, she looked at her 13-year-old son's cell phone and discovered more sexually explicit messages from Varela. When she questioned her son, he said his sister sometimes used his phone.

One again, the mother confronted her 12-year-old daughter, but she denied she was having sex with Varela. The woman then went to her sister's home to confront the suspect. She said that's when her boyfriend assaulted Varela. She said she was about to call the police, but Varela dialed 911 first.

The victim was taken to the hospital for an examination. The girl's mother said that's when her daughter finally admitted to having a sexual relationship with Varela. It's not known when it started.

Police arrested Varela on first-degree rape and booked him into the Oklahoma County jail.
