OKLAHOMA CITY – Everyone kept waiting for a scoring outburst from the RedHawks, but it just never seemed to happen.
After Las Vegas scored four runs in the first two innings, Oklahoma City suffered through the rest of the game without making a serious run in a 4-1 loss on Tuesday.
The Vegas 51s got on the board first with a run in the top of the first inning, but OKC was lucky to hold it to just one as the bases were loaded before the final out.
But the RedHawks weren't as lucky in the second inning.
Las Vegas' Anthony Gose tripled to bring home Chris Woodward and Adeiny Hechavarria. A throwing error then allowed Gose to make it home, giving the 51s an early 4-0 lead.
The RedHawks' lone run of the game came in the fourth inning when Justin Ruggiano doubled to bring home Fernando Martinez and cut the lead down slightly to 4-1.
But the rest of the day Oklahoma City struggled, managing only six hits in the contest. The RedHawks' three errors proved costly as well in allowing the four runs.
Robert Coello got the win for Las Vegas in allowing the only OKC run of the day. Jarred Cosart threw six innings and gave up eight hits and all four Las Vegas runs in the loss.
Oklahoma City fell to 17-16 with the loss and Las Vegas moved its record to the exact same – 17-16 – as a result of its victory.
The two teams will continue the series at 11:05 a.m. Wednesday in OKC.
