RedHawks Caps Off Series Against Memphis With Win

Oklahoma City ended their season-opening series against the Redbirds with a seven-run win.

The Oklahoma City RedHawks won their third-consecutive game Sunday, knocking off the Memphis Redbirds 8-1 thanks to a strong outing by Jordan Lyles.

The right-handed starter pitched six innings for the RedHawks, giving up just one earned run on seven hits, striking out five in his outing. His only earned run came in the top of the fourth on a sacrifice double-play, allowing matt Adams to score.

Oklahoma City started off the scoring in the bottom of the second, after a leadoff double from Justin Ruggiano, Brett Wallace singled to ground ball, bringing Ruggiano home to take a 1-0 lead.Four at-bats later, Jordan Lyles hits a groundball single to right field, bringing Brett Wallace home to double the lead.

J.B. Shuck followed with a single to left field, bringing Moore home to take a 3-0 advantage early in the game. Brett Wallace tagged on a solo home run in the bottom of the third to push the lead to four runs.

That ended the game for Shelby Miller (0-1), giving up seven hits and four earned runs in just three innings of service.

The RedHawks added four runs in the bottom of the eighth, thanks to three RBI doubles, including a two-run double from Scott Moore, to take an 8-1 advantage late in the game.

The RedHawks will now host Nashville at 7:05 p.m. Monday, trying to extend their win streak to four games.
