URBANA, Illinois – If you need to get into the festive spirit, holiday cheer is just a phone call away.

Students from the University of Illinois have donated their time for the last 50 years, answering calls from around the world with a Christmas carol.

"We got one from Scotland today. Yeah, it's interesting," said phone caroler Fazle Karim.

The Dial-A-Carol program was started in December of 1960 and the residents of Snyder Hall, a university housing residence, have been hosting the program each year since.

Anyone can call and request a specific holiday tune to be played over the telephone and if you're the fifth caller, volunteers will also sing the carol. The best part is the calls are free, minus the long distance charge of course.

Last year the school said it logged 1,200 phone calls.

If you want to hear a Christmas carol, call 217-332-1882. The service is open 24 hours a day until midnight on December 15.
