NORMAN, Oklahoma – Damage from this month's tornadoes isn't stopping people from heading to Lake Thunderbird Memorial Day weekend.
Crews have been working since the May 10 storm to clean up the park for the holiday weekend.
"People are having fun and enjoying themselves, but we still urge them to be aware of possible hazards that they may come up on," Park Manager Terry Gibson said.
The boat ramps and areas at Sailboat, Fisherman's Point and Little Axe are blocked off, but the campsites are full and RV parks are packed.
The good news is there's still plenty of room for a picnic.
"The park is open the; lake is open," Gibson said. "We want people to enjoy themselves and have a great Memorial weekend because that's what the park is for."
