OKLAHOMA CITY – A seven-year-old died around 11:50 a.m. in a crash on I-35 in Logan County. The child was not wearing a seat belt and was ejected after the vehicle lost control on the slick roadway and overturned.
According to the accident report, the driver of the vehicle was distracted by a cell phone. The vehicle exited the roadway and the driver, Cenece Rhodes, overcorrected the car. The Chevy Suburban rolled and came to rest on the passenger side.
Cheyanne Rhodes, 7, was ejected and pronounced dead at the scene.
The family was traveling from Fort Worth, Texas. The other three passengers and the driver were uninjured.
The Oklahoma Highway Patrol reported 55 additional injury crashes that were investigated due to the winter storm.
