The second heavy snowfall to hit Britain this week caused major delays for
planes, trains and automobiles on Thursday.
Runways at Birmingham and East Midlands airports in central England and Luton
airport north of London were closed, while train operators reported delays on
Thursday on routes between London and the west.
As much as four inches (10 centimetres) of snow fell overnight in south Wales
and western and central England.
This winter has been the coldest and snowiest in Britain for years, and some
authorities say they are running short on grit and salt.
