Midwest City Man Claims to Have Shot Wife

MIDWEST CITY, Oklahoma - Midwest City police said they are investigating the shooting of a Midwest City woman that was taken to the hospital with a gunshot wound to the chest.

The woman, 54-year-old Cynthia Garrett, had just been released from the hospital earlier in the day for a previous medical condition.

According to a hospital spokesperson, Garrett was dropped off by her husband, 59-year-old Thomas Wayne Garrett, and then left the hospital.

Police said they found Thomas while driving and he told them his wife was shot in a drive-by. After police checked his vehicle and found a gun, Thomas told police he shot his wife in a state of depression after losing their home and planned to take his own life as well.

Thomas was booked into the Oklahoma County jail on a complaint of shooting with intent to kill.
