NOBLE, Okla. -- Lexington's done it. So has Lindsay. So has Washington. They've all recently allowed their citizens to drive golf carts on city streets.

Next could be Noble. Right now cars, trucks and motorcycles are the only powered vehicles permitted on Noble city streets.

But some in town want the City Council to allow golf carts too. Noble resident Bill Cummins is one of them.

"It's getting to where it's costing so much to get around town even with our cars that I think it would be an asset to be able to use our golf carts on city streets for that purpose," Cummins said.

The Noble City Council has yet to decide whether to allow golf carts on city streets. But some cities are allowing them--under certain restrictions.

"They are restricting them to city streets of like 25 miles an hour, restricting them from using state highways," Noble City Manager Bob Wade said.

Allen Warren sells, rents and customizes golf carts at his business in Noble. He says they're a safe means of transportation.

"They're very visible," Allen Warren with ABS Golf Carts said. "They have headlights, tail lights, brake lights, turn signals."

Meanwhile, Cummins plans to buy a golf cart as soon as it's legal to buy one.

"I haven't got my wife sold on that yet," Cummins said. "But, that's the next thing."

The Noble City Council will take up the golf cart debate again next week.
