A University of Central Oklahoma student is worried about her family after cyclones wiped out larger portions of her home country of Myanmar.

Khing Zar moved to Oklahoma four months ago. Her parents live in the region slammed by the cyclone.  She said it was an excruciating wait , as she tried to get a hold of her family to see if they were safe.

"I've been trying for three or four days," she said.

Fortunately her parents and their home survived, but they are the lucky ones.  A U.S. diplomat estimates the death toll could be up to 100,000 people.  Now there are concerns about disease spreading among the survivors.

"They cannot keep cleaning up the dead bodies, so it's like spreading a lot," Zar said.
